How the Jigsaw Studio works

Pick a scene from the row above and the studio cuts it into pieces on the spot. The four small scenes (Raccoon, Cat, Dog and Rabbit) are nine pieces each, made for young children and for a quick two-minute break. The four large scenes (Safari, Tropical, Fairy Forest and Pirate Cove) are thirty-two pieces. Shuffle deals a fresh scatter of the same picture; Fullscreen gives the board the whole screen, which is the best way to play on a tablet.

Drag a piece towards its faint outline on the board and it snaps home when it is close enough and the right way up. A tap rotates a piece by a quarter turn, and a piece that is upside down will not snap even in the right place, so the rotation is part of the puzzle rather than a decoration. When the last piece lands the picture celebrates and then settles, and you can shuffle it again or move on.

The counting behind the pieces

A boxed “1000-piece” jigsaw usually holds more than a thousand pieces, because manufacturers cut a grid that fits the picture rather than the round number on the box.
