How many films has Mark Wahlberg been in?

Fifty-nine released feature films as of July 2026 — and the more remarkable number hiding inside it: since his 1994 debut in Renaissance Man, only two calendar years (2011 and 2019) have passed without a Mark Wahlberg movie. No transformation mythology, no five-year prestige gaps — just the most reliable conveyor belt in Hollywood, peaking at four films in 2013 alone. Tap through every year of it below.

The cadence: two films a year, for thirty years

The strategy is volume with variety inside it: one action or thriller, one comedy or family film, most years. IMDb’s editorial desk credits him with an “insatiable work ethic” — the man whose viral 2018 daily schedule famously started with a 2:30am wake-up made the same principle into a filmography. The 2013 peak (Broken City, Pain & Gain, 2 Guns and Lone Survivor in one year) would be a respectable half-decade for most leading men. Even the two blank years were accidents of scheduling: Contraband slid from 2011 into January 2012, and the 2019 gap ended that February with Spenser Confidential.

Same guy, different jacket — and why that’s the point

Wahlberg is a persona actor: the blue-collar Boston everyman who can handle himself, transplanted into smuggling (Contraband), soldiering (Lone Survivor), oil rigs (Deepwater Horizon) or a talking teddy bear’s living room (Ted). Audiences buy the constant, not the disguise. The paradox is that his most acclaimed work came from breaking it: the naive, wounded Dirk Diggler in Boogie Nights — the role that had The New York Times’ Janet Maslin, in 1997, calling him “an actor whose talents are the sum of his parts” — and the profane, coiled Sergeant Dignam in The Departed, which earned his Best Supporting Actor nomination in a cast full of bigger names. Rotten Tomatoes’ profile settles on “one of Hollywood’s more versatile performers” — versatility he spends, most years, on cargo planes and car chases by choice.

Why he’s famous: the least likely résumé in Hollywood

The origin story does half the work: a Dorchester, Boston kid who served jail time as a teenager, became rapper Marky Mark of the Funky Bunch in 1991, then a Calvin Klein underwear model, then — inside a single decade — a respected actor. Fear (1996) put him opposite Reese Witherspoon in a hit thriller; Boogie Nights (1997) made critics take the ex-rapper seriously; Three Kings (1999) and The Perfect Storm (2000) made him bankable. Two Oscar nominations followed — acting in The Departed (2006), producing The Fighter (2010) — plus Entourage, the HBO series he co-created from his own early-fame years. The fame isn’t built on one iconic role; it’s built on the improbability of the whole arc, maintained by never leaving the screen.

Who watches Wahlberg

Four audiences keep the belt moving. The Friday-night streaming crowd — The Union, Flight Risk, Play Dirty, the Family Plan films — treats a new Wahlberg title as a genre in itself. Comedy audiences met him in Ted (2012) and the Daddy’s Home films and keep coming back for the deadpan. Boston is its own constituency: The Departed, The Fighter, Patriots Day, Spenser Confidential and Ted form a running civic saga. And Father Stu (2022), the priest biopic he financed himself, built a faith-based audience most action stars never touch. Different rooms, same reliable face.

What rolls off the belt next

The 2026 slate is already moving: Balls Up (Peter Farrelly’s comedy with Paul Walter Hauser) has landed, and By Any Means — Elegance Bratton’s crime thriller casting Wahlberg as real FBI-linked mafia hitman Gregory Scarpa, opposite Yahya Abdul-Mateen II — arrives 4 September 2026. Behind those: Weekend Warriors, Stephen Chbosky’s father-and-autistic-son NBA road trip co-produced by LeBron James; a Netflix operator thriller, The Operation; and a possible Uncharted sequel. The two blank years on the chart above are unlikely to get company soon.
