One note, three ways of seeing it
Press a key on this piano and three things happen at once. You hear a sound. A number appears — the frequency, in hertz. And a dot lands on the stave. They are the same event described in three languages, and switching between them fluently is most of what "understanding music" actually means.
The pink diamond marks middle C — the note that sits exactly between the two staves of a grand staff, on its own short ledger line. It is the hinge of written music: the treble staff above is mostly the right hand, the bass staff below mostly the left, and middle C is the shared note where they meet. Find it once and the rest of the page stops looking like a wall of lines.
Hold a key briefly and the stave draws a quaver; hold it longer and you get a crotchet, then a minim, then a whole semibreve. Those shapes are not decoration — they are a duration written down. A hollow notehead lasts longer than a filled one; a flag halves the length again. Music notation is, underneath, just a graph of pitch against time, and you are drawing on that graph every time you hold a key a little longer.
You can also work the other way round: click straight onto the stave and the note at that height plays. Reading and writing music become the same gesture — point at a line, hear what lives there. That two-way loop is the thing a static answer can never give you. A page can tell you middle C is 261.63 Hz. Only a tool lets you press it, see the number, watch the dot, and click the dot to hear it again.
