About the microphone

The playground listens through your device's microphone to make the visuals respond to music or voice. Audio is processed entirely in your browser — nothing is recorded, stored, or sent anywhere. If you prefer, the visuals still work without microphone access; they just stop reacting to sound. Play mode never uses the microphone at all — it makes sound instead of listening, entirely on your device.

How to use the playground

Open it, allow the microphone when the browser asks, and play some music near the device — a speaker in the room is enough. The screen starts moving with the sound straight away. Tap or drag anywhere to add your own marks; every style responds to touch as well as to sound, so it works in a silent room too. Swipe through the thirteen styles to change the look; there is nothing to set up and nothing to read.

Wisp draws a glowing trail that climbs and falls with the pitch of each note, so a rising tune literally rises on the screen. Play records a gesture you draw and loops it in time, which is the quickest way to show a young child that their movement made the picture. The other styles trade brightness, bloom and motion in different ways; the point of the app is to explore them, not to master them.

It is built for the youngest visitors and for anyone who wants a calm, colourful screen while music plays: no accounts, no scores, no adverts inside the full-screen view, and the microphone audio never leaves the browser.
